Community Support Services
We offer Community Support Services (also known as
“Conversion Waiver”) for adults with developmental
disabilities. Community Support Services (CSS) can take many
different forms, from assisting people in preparing for independent
living, to helping those already in independent living arrangements
maintain their household, to recreational activities. Both
individuals who live at home with their families, and those in
other living arrangements, may access Community Support
Services.
Funded by the Rhode Island Division of Developmental
Disabilities, the number of hours of Community Support Services
(CSS) per week is determined by the Division’s social worker
for that individual. Typically, people receive five to ten hours
per week although it can increase based on individual need and
situation.
Some of the ways in which Community Support Services may help
adults with developmental disabilities include, but are not limited
to, assisting in daily living activities such as budgeting and
doing finances, cooking, and shopping. If the individual does not
live outside his/her family’s home but plans to, Community
Support Services may assist in preparing for independent living.
For individuals who choose to remain at home with their families,
CSS may be used for transporting to community recreational
activities.
